The
horse is a tired athlete who is working just enough rope to get the job done. ("You never had a fresh horse very long!") He is a true "rope horse" that can stop and work a rope on a baby calf or trip a "foot rot
bull". He will give you whatever shot you need in rough country, brush, mud, or ice, staying right side up and getting the job done. Seldom, if ever, seeing a groomed arena
The cowboy or cowgirl, working with a
partner, or if by their self have to recognize health problems and be able to treat whatever they run onto. In order to do this they have to be able to rope their cattle in a way that is easiest on the cattle and their
horse. ("The other option for sick cattle in a big country with no corrals is pretty grim.")
The head dog depicted here gives the cowboy a pardner that can hold and bring cattle back to you. This sure saves on cattle
and horses.
The medicine bags on his saddle pack enough antibiotics, pills, syringe, ball gun, etc. You should be able to treat anything from respiratory problems to sewing up a pro-lapse cow.
The only priority is the
safety and care of the cattle and your horse. Every country has its own way. I like to dally up short and thread my rope the way I've depicted here and carry it down with me, especially on a green horse.
